Imagine heading to Kota to do it all over again while all your friends head to different colleges across the country to start a new chapter of their lives. Imagine living with the guilt of wasting your parents’ money and the frustration of wasting one year of your life, and then being reminded of your predicament every day and by everyone as they identify you by the term ’13th’. ’13th mein admission chahiye?’, ‘Bhaiya aap 13th mein ho na?’, ‘Beta 13th mein kyun aana pada, 12th mein nahi nikaal paae?’ … are only a few of the many such haunting questions that a student of 13th has to face on a daily basis. It becomes a part of their identity, a symbol of their failure, a pronoun which means that they are not good enough.
